When Vanessa reached out after discovering my portraiture on Instagram, her message came as such a joyful grace. Having recently relaunched Sacred Design Studios after a ten-year season of waiting, her inquiry felt like a sweet confirmation of this renewed calling. She was seeking Martha's Vineyard maternity portraits that were pure, authentic, and true-to-color—capturing her natural beauty and the genuine essence of this season without heavy editing.
Knowing their heart for simplicity and the beauty of a coastal New England backdrop, we selected Edgartown for their portrait session. Vanessa and her husband are wonderfully sweet and grounded; they didn’t want anything overly extravagant. They simply wanted to be documented as they were, centered on the quiet joy of their growing family. To make the session deeply personal, I invited them to bring a few meaningful items that reflected their faith and the love surrounding their daughter: they chose a family Bible, the ultrasound photo, and a sweet plush Jesus doll to welcome their little one.
Trusting the Process: Fine-Art Maternity Photography in Edgartown, MA
Coastal weather on Martha’s Vineyard can be notoriously unpredictable. On the day of our shoot, we were met with heavy overcast skies and a constant threat of rain as our 6:00 PM session approached. Around 4:30 PM, Vanessa reached out to see if we should cancel. Knowing how much these portraits meant to her, I offered to reschedule while also encouraging us to hold tight for a moment. I chose to offer up a prayer, leaving the weather entirely in the Lord’s hands.
By 5:00 PM, the sky began to visibly clear. We decided to take the leap of faith and Martha’s Vineyard rewarded us with one of the most magnificent, golden sunset skies I have photographed in a long time. It was a moment of pure grace and an unforgettable backdrop for their Edgartown maternity photos. Documenting this sweet couple as the golden light filtered across the water was an absolute honor. These quiet, true-to-color portraits serve as a lasting testament to where their daughter's story began: rooted in faith, devotion, and profound love.
